A Simple Christmas Decorating Idea

Yesterday was Christmas decorating day here at Lake Mary.  We don't have the tree, yet, but I hauled out everything else.  The first thing I do is remove most of the non-Christmassy stuff.  The worst part about doing that is finding a place to stash it all until after the Holidays.  P.S. Don't look under the beds.

One thing that I do every year that is inexpensive and effective is tie a large ribbon around the lamp bases.  The first photo shows that I did not remove anything at all from that table.  I just tied a bow around the lamp.  Jack gave me that cloisonne vase about 30 years ago and the little box looks nice with it plus they almost look Holidayish.  Christmassy & Holidayish are not in the dictionary but are just the words I'm looking for so....

Anyway, at the end of the season I just roll the ribbons up and tuck them in with the rest of the ornaments.  Just thought you might find that useful.

Tomorrow, the tree.

Nice idea. I've not done a thing. May get the tree today though. Can't wait to check out your tree photos.

That looks very pretty! I would totally steal that idea.... if I had any lamps in my living room.

Looking forward to seeing your tree! Do you use a real one? I bought an artificial tree this year, but haven't taken it out of the box yet. I need to shampoo my carpet before I decorate.
Will probably do that tomorrow, since I didn't get around to it today.

Well, thanks for liking my idea, ladies...it's free for the taking. I haven't got the tree, yet...we've been gone the last five Christmasses (Christmasses???) and I did have a faux tree but it was old and pretty yukky so got rid of it.

Probably will get a real tree this year and then snap up an artificial one at the after Christmas sales. Or, better yet, I'll look for one at a resales shop that's in decent condition.

A snow storm is rolling in tomorrow so might not get to the tree for a few days. If it's nice in the morning I might, though.

BTW, I've had those table lamps forEVER and the floor lamp I got at a flea market in Pennsylvania when we lived there. It needed some love so I spray painted it sort of a brass/gold color.

Well, it looks very nice. It looks like grown-ups live in your house. My decor is more along the lines of shabby. Not even shabby chic, just shabby.
Sigh.

My mom keeps plain white candles of different heights in her fireplace and then for each holiday ties appropriate ribbon around them. Ribbon dresses up everything! Cute ideas!

Lady B., you are so funny. I'll take a photo of the house one day when it's not all prettied up for the Holidays. There's plenty that's shabby around here. I'm just pretty good at disguising it-LOL!

KK, your mom sounds like my mom...that's where I learned all my tricks. She was a genius when it came to making something out of nothing.

Kittie, that reminds me...I should change my photo to a winter scene. You are right...it's a winter wonderland here when it snows. Thanks for the thumbs up, too!

That is very simple. But lovely.

We're not going to have a tree this year because of itty bitty crazy kitty so I look forward to seeing images of yours. :D

Hi Moe! But you will have so much fun with itty bitty crazy kitty it'll be worth not having a tree!
