Happy Tax Day?

Weather Vane at Chateau Poulet
"Indoors or out, no one relaxes in March, that month of wind and taxes, the wind will presently disappear, the taxes last us all the year."  ~Ogden Nash

So it's Tax Day.  Sometimes it's happy and sometimes it isn't but whadda ya gonna do?  Nobody likes taxes.  Nobody likes PAYING taxes but we're all pretty cheery if we get something back at the end of the year.  I know they say that the best scenario is to break even.   Wonder how often that happens?

Nobody likes going to the dentist, either, but if you don't you could find yourself in a lot of trouble.

So in "honor" of this special day I'm posting a few humorous quotes by a few noteworthy people.  Everybody has an opinion...Enjoy.

"Did you ever notice that when you put the words "The" and "IRS" together, it spells "THEIRS?"  ~Author Unknown

"I owe the government $3,400 in taxes. So I sent them two hammers and a toilet seat." - Michael McShane
"You must pay taxes.  But there's no law that says you gotta leave a tip."  ~Morgan Stanley advertisement

And this might be my all time favorite...

“Isn't it appropriate that the month of the tax begins with April Fool's Day and ends with cries of "May Day!"?”

Wishing everyone a day of breaking even...

  1. Hi Cheryl,

    TIME Magazine - Issue April 19, 2010:

". . . Ben Franklin knew what he was talking about when he said the only things certain in life are death and taxes. Indeed, the only thing people hate more than one is the other."

  2. Argggh, taxes right. I forgot about my taxes which I started a month ago but still remain unfiled!

I like the quotes, got a few smiles out of me once I got over the fact that I haven't filed yet!

Hi Joseph, haven't made it to your blog of the day YET! You've been warned! lol

  3. Hi me again, I'm just checking to ensure you are receiving my comments. I can't get into a few posts I'd love to comment on from other blog sites, which is odd. I've never had this problem before. Maybe, just maybe it's a sign to get outta here of to work!

    Have a great evening Cheryl.

  4. Cheryl - thanks for popping by my blog today and following. Checked yours out, and like the stories I've read so far, and your great clear photos.

As for taxes - my refund is already spent! :)

  8. Joseph, you are right...I'd rather pay taxes than experience the "other" sure thing!

darlin, Oh dear, not sure if I am happy I reminded you or not! It's school that's throwing you off, I think. Anyway, that's what extensions are for, isn't it?

Hi Rick! Thank you for stopping by. I guess it's too late to tell you to not spend it all in the same place - ha!

Lady Fi - I'll be thinking of you on May 3rd...yes, that weather vane is cool. I actually had to chase it around to get some photos...it was "blowing in the wind" so to speak :-)

    KK, Good for you!

  9. April is tax month in many places, even in Sweden. Here in Denmark it is done over a stretch of a few months and ends in July.;)
I recall the tax day from my years living in NC though and thoroughly enjoyed this post and even the fun quotes.;)
Happy Tax day!;) And a great Friday,
    xo

  10. I heard on NPR that something like 49% of U.S. citizens won't pay taxes this year. That number is up by 10% from a couple of years ago. Pretty scary. Who's paying for all of this? Thanks for the humor. We all need it on tax day.

  11. I never hope for a "big refund" — because that would imply that I was over-taxed. That money would actually earn interest in my savings account, where as the government holding onto to it really does nothing for me. I always look at the tax return as "whoops, we over-charged you" — so I expect it to be underwhelming.

So, I await my $4.00 state tax return check...
    : )

Best of mathematical rate tables to all the rest of you!

  12. Zuzana, I'm not sure which I'd prefer tax-wise...spreading it out over a few months or getting it out of the way all at once. It's painful no matter what.

    Judy, it IS scary.

Earning interest is waaaaay better than letting Uncle Sam have it, Sarah.

  13. Thanks, Ramona...we all need to lighten up a little, maybe.

I just love reading your comments. It's part of what makes blogging so much fun, don't you think?

Unfortunately, because of a recent spat of spam, for awhile I'll be reviewing comments before publishing them.

Thanks for understanding.
