A Baltimore Oriole is not a Hummingbird

Well, that does it...we've got to get a new hummingbird feeder.  Possibly one without perches.

I like this feeder because the container is glass and it's easy to clean.  And it gives the little hummingbirds a spot to rest for just a minute while they gather their nectar.  But it dropped one day.  Several of the little white feeding slots broke and one of the perches.  Up until then just the hummingbirds could fit their tiny little (but very long) beaks into the slots.  But now they're large enough to accommodate a fatter beak...well, just like the one on this Baltimore Oriole.

I think this makes an appropriate but unusual Camera Critters post (#115) for this week, don't you?

  2. Way cool! I have never seen a Baltimore Oriole on a hummingbird feeder! Probably 'cause we don't have them here. Orioles, I mean. We do have hummingbirds, though. Check out my post tomorrow.... :)

  4. Absolutely great shot. I see all these beautiful pictures of birds being posted, and I unable to approach any bird close enough or long enough to take a picture.;) Either I need a better zoom or the Scandinavian birds are much more timid.;)

  11. The orioles in Singapore are completely yellow. I miss them as the fly around my apartment as I now live in New Zealand, wehre I have not seen any.

  12. : )
Bummer about the feeder. Ironically, I put up an oriole feeder once, and the only birds that checked it out were the hummingbirds.

I generally stick to the plastic feeders, but our yard tends to be very windy, and I always figure the glass ones would end up getting smacked up against something. Anyway, have fun shopping for a new feeder, even when I don't need one I generally find myself looking at them in the stores... I guess my inner shopaholic simply cannot be tamed.

  13. Great photo! I've never seen an oriole at a hummingbird feeder. He looks a little too big, I think. He needs his own feeder.

I just love reading your comments. It's part of what makes blogging so much fun, don't you think?

Unfortunately, because of a recent spat of spam, for awhile I'll be reviewing comments before publishing them.

Thanks for understanding.
