Monarch Butterfly in Our Cranberry Bush

I actually took this photograph through our dining room window!  And the window, I'm embarrassed to say, is not exactly sparkling clean...so it's not the best photo but I like the way the butterfly perched on the blossom.   It stayed there for a very long time, too.

I did crop the photo to get this close up ... hope it translates well in your browser.

This is my photograph for Camera Critters this week!

  1. Hi Cheryl,
I could not tell that was taken through a window, or that it was cropped. Nice work! It's not a monarch, though. I think it's a lady of some kind, like painted lady, or American lady, or American painted lady. Have a great Sunday!

  4. Nicely done. It's not easy getting a decent shot through glass but you did just fine. I'm seeing a great deal of butterflies these past couple of weeks. They're such a treat.

  5. Wow, when I take photos through windows they are awful. I can see the butterfly and the picture is clear. Next time don't mention taking through a window. It really is a nice picture.

  6. Great photo, but I believe it is a painted lady butterfly. I'm new to your blog, found my way from Camera Critters. Hope you have time to stop by and see my osprey photo for CC this week.

  7. It's a good pic. Looks like it has lots of sweet stuff to drink. I'm not a butterfly expert but I think it is a Red Admiral.

  8. Magnificent! Monarchs are so aptly named. I wish we had more butterflies where I am, Virginia. Do have more bees than last year so that brings a smile. And I'd never seen a cranberry bush before. It's really pretty. (Your window looked clean to me!)

  10. Ohhhhhhhhhhh, so so beautiful!!! This is through your window? How awesome is that? I see no dirt on the glass. You should see MY windows if you think yours is dirty. Pffft.

And wait a minute...you said cranberry bush? I've never heard of this before...do they produce cranberry like fruit? Edible? I gotta go google now for sure.

Hope your weekend has treated you well.

  13. It's a lovely photo, regardless of what type of butterfly it is! And I'm jealous of your cranberry bush. I love cranberries.

We have high-bush cranberries that grow wild around here, so I will go picking berries (in the autumn), but the bears also love cranberries, so berry-picking is always good for the heart.....

  14. Great job. I don't know what kind of camera you have, but I am frustrated with mine. Before I came to Yellowstone, I thought mine would be adequate. Wrong. I missed a perfect rainbow the other day. There are great photo opportunities everywhere no matter where you are.
