World Oceans Day

This is a photograph I took of the Manhattan Beach Pier in Manhattan Beach, California.  It was a stormy day about a year ago.  I can't tell you how high the pier is but it's high!  Probably 20 feet...maybe more...from the pier to the shore.  The surf was actually reaching the boardwalk.

I cannot imagine what this would be like if the surf was spewing tons of gallons of oil onto this pretty beach.   My heart breaks for the people in the gulf.

It's World Oceans Day.  I think a moment of silence is in order.

  2. I love the waves in this photo! Fantastic!

I didn't know it's World Oceans Day, but I'm glad I chose today to spend this morning at the shore. Fitting. :)

  4. Very nice photo. I grew up in southern CA, moved away when my third child was due. Eventually moved back to CA after living in a few other states and getting to see this country close up and personal. You are right indeed to voice concern for the beaches in the gulf. This is not something that will just go away in a couple years.

  5. The vibrancy in your sunrise photo is the most spectacular ever! The reds are like fire. About the pier, I was quiet for a long moment. And what a nice idea to bring good vibes to a region under seige.

Cheryl, I had to shut the computer down last night. My blog disappeared and reappeard after heart-thumping moments. Several comments shifted positions (hub suggested that was from the order sent). This a.m. I learned Blogger has been dropping quite a few crumbs around the world. *sigh*

  9. Wow, magnificent shot. I sure wouldn't want to be in that building with the waves coming up as they are.

It is so sad how our earth is being destroyed, I can't even imagine how devastating it would be to see this beach covered in oil. Thank you for the awareness Cheryl.

  11. It's sickening, what's happening in the Gulf. I have gotten to the point where I have to avert my eyes or turn the television off when they show the poor animals covered in oil.

That is a beautiful picture, Cheryl.

  16. I'm getting withdrawal symptoms looking at your pic of the ocean. Lovely scene. I can't bear to watch the sickening scenes of our stricken wildlife caught up in the spills. Indirectly I suppose many of us are to blame

  17. Well, I missed that. I am upset about the whole oil situation, and the impact on the people, wildlife and environment.

I love your photo! I want to go there!

I just love reading your comments. It's part of what makes blogging so much fun, don't you think?

Unfortunately, because of a recent spat of spam, for awhile I'll be reviewing comments before publishing them.

Thanks for understanding.
