Bob and Eva

We are petsitting this week.  Daughter Jen's cat, Eva, and her pet dove, Bob.  Bob is 20 years old (at least).  She got him when she was 14 from a school teacher who had several in the classroom and at the end of the year several lucky students got them as pets.  Who knew they live this long???

Eva is 15 or 16 years old.  They are her children (or "kids" as she calls them).   "Mom, can you watch the kids while I fly to New York for a week?"  Sure.

So Eva and Bob are friends as well as "siblings".   They actually play.  Bob chases Eva and pecks her toes and Eva rolls over on her back and bats at him with her paws.

She could send him sailing across the room if she wanted to but she never does.  She bats at him gently.

I guess in this shot Eva is keeping an eye on Bob.  He's headed for her food dish in the kitchen.  That's a definite no-no but he's naughty, sometimes.

Sometimes they just visit a little.  Probably wonder where the heck "Mom" has gone, this time!

This is my submission for Camera Critters #118 this week, which will be a unique post, I think!

  12. Pam, so glad you got a kick out of this. It's cool that they get along so well.

Thanks, TechoBabe. Pet sitting them is interesting, to say the least!

We were really busy, yesterday, at the art fair. It was definitely smoothie weather. I was just wondering how your Tommy cat would get along with Bob!

Thanks,Teresa. Wouldn't it be nice if all humans, regardless of their differences, could get along as beautifully as Bob and Eva?

Maggie, it is a strange combo, indeed! And we've read that doves can live as long as 30 years! One time, not so long ago, he fell over on his side while walking on the floor. Jennie picked him up and massaged his chest and he seemed fine, after that. We aren't sure what happened or whether or not she "saved his life" but we're keeping a watch on him...he's an old guy, after all.

Hi Sue...I'm thinking that lots of different species might just get along well if we gave them a chance. Or not. :-)

Thanks for the visit, Martha! I think Eva has lived with Bob so long she just thinks of him as part of the family. Her instincts are getting kinda old, too!

Thank you, LadyFi! I find it delightful, too. They often vie for position on our laps...just like kids!

Hi, Dawn...thank you for the visit. Tweety Bird and Putty Cat could learn a lesson from Bob and Eva!

Ann, you are right...Tom and Jerry brainwashed us! Thanks for the visit...much appreciated.

Hi Nikki-ann. Thanks for stopping by. Yep, cats and birds can be friends, after all.

  16. Thanks, Joanne (Poetic Shutterbug), for stopping by and following! Am working on a post (will publish it shortly) about the photo contest SF Botanical Gardens is sponsoring.

Well, darlin, Bob hasn't known any other birds in his life and he probably thinks Eva is a strange bird. Eva, on the other hand, has lived with Bob her whole life so it's no big deal to her.

You are exactly right, Ramona (Japanese Redneck)...they are a very odd couple!

  17. Bob has absolutely NO fear and I am so happy that they are pals. I can hardly believe that I'm adding a dog to the mix! Good thing he's a sweetie and is very well-mannered, not trying to invade on Bob and Eva's relationship. Thanks as always for the pet sitting!

I just love reading your comments. It's part of what makes blogging so much fun, don't you think?

Unfortunately, because of a recent spat of spam, for awhile I'll be reviewing comments before publishing them.

Thanks for understanding.
