Lazy Days of Summer

Fishing off the dock on a perfect July day is the ultimate summer fun at Lake Mary.  Here are Jack, MJ and two young fishing enthusiasts enjoying a little bonding time.

If you enlarge this photo you can read the back of Jack's shirt..."Old Guys Rule".  Jen bought this for him when we were in Los Angeles a couple of years ago.

Then there's the annual Strawberry-Picking-With-Grandpa Event.  Every year they hop in the car and spend an hour or so at a strawberry patch.   I then spend an hour or so cleaning and trimming them.  I put them on large trays, cover them with wax paper and set them in the freezer.  After they're frozen we put them in freezer bags.  I'll be making strawberry jam at some point.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone.  For those of you in the United States...have a safe and happy 4th of July.  Be careful with the fireworks, please.

  5. Hi Cheryl!
I just happened upon your blog and it's wonderful! I love your pictures and "musings"...and yes- it IS all about the journey!

  6. Love Jack's shirt!
The strawberries look yummy. Mine are still in the blooming stage (and so are the wild ones)- I'm thinking the lack of rain will limit the yield this year.
(That's okay - I'm more of a raspberry fan, anyway!)
I wanna come and fish off your dock!

  7. Wonderful photos Cheryl! It's awesome that Grandpa and the kids get out strawberry picking and they look like wonderful berries... Grandpa must have the children taught what's good and what's not so good.

Cool shirt! Happy 4th of July, do you no longer call it Independence Day?

  8. Janie, good memories, indeed. Since two of our daughters live several hours away, we really only have this chance once a summer when they come for a week.

TechnoBabe, we're staying here at the lake on the 4th. There are a few resorts nearby that have fireworks so we have prime seats for a couple of wonderful shows. There's a chance of rain, today, so we'll see...

    M. Hassan, yes, it is a perfect example of summer life. By the way, I just made you a contact on Flickr...love your photos.

Pam, thanks! Summer at "the lake" is a picture you'll see all over Minnesota!

Dawn, thanks so much for stopping by! Lucky you, having your own strawberry patch! I did stop by your blog, too, and am looking forward to more of your own "musings."

Bag Lady, I love raspberries, too...even more than strawberries. You can come fish off our dock, any time.

Darlin', actually, Jack is the go-to person, here. He fishes with them, takes them strawberry picking, etc. I feed them! Yes, we still call it Independence Day...just not so much, I guess. Happy Belated Independence Day to all of you Canadians, too!

  10. Great story and accompanying photos Cheryl - what a great way to make those memories that last a lifetime. And these activities are so much more healthy than video games etc on a beautiful summer day!

    Happy Independence Day!

  11. What a lovely post! We miss fishing but we have to wait for awhile when the weather becomes warmer. The strawberries look so delicious. I love to eat strawberries with whipped cream. Great photos.

Thanks a lot for the visit.

  14. Thanks, Rick and you are so right...being outdoors on a summer day isn't just fun - it's healthy! A concept we tend to overlook.

Thanks for stopping by, Eden. Is winter just startng in Australia? I'm never quite sure what season you're in! Strawberries and whipped cream - good stuff!

Thanks, Hilary, and those berries taste just as good as they look. Sweet and juicy.

  15. Hi Debbie...so glad you stopped by! I think Grandpa did a bit of picking, too, actually. Not sure how many were consumed at the time but I'm sure a few never made it to the baskets!
