I'm not just saying this because the star of the show was my granddaughter but I thought this production of Alice in Wonderland was really excellent.
And it goes without saying that Alice was the star of the show...not just because she was the star of the show, if you get my meaning.
Her voice is beautiful and her performance was flawless. Seriously. She was in nearly every scene. She performed several solos without missing a note.
All of the actors were remarkable in their performances, though. The scenery was just beautiful. The entire production was top notch.
The Culture House Academy of the Performing Arts in Olathe, Kansas certainly does know its business.

The Cheshire Cat was perfect as she informed Alice about the 'Rules' of Wonderland.
`But I don't want to go among mad people,' Alice remarked.
`Oh, you can't help that,' said the Cat: `we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad.'
`How do you know I'm mad?' asked Alice.
`You must be,' said the Cat, `or you wouldn't have come here.'

Too much pepper in the soup!
"Tut, tut, child!" said the Duchess. "Everything's got a moral, if only you can find it."Isn't that the truth?!

No live flamingos were injured during this game of croquet. Alice nearly lost her head, however! That Queen of Hearts is a very sore loser.

"Where shall I begin, please your Majesty?"asked the White Rabbit.
"Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop." replied the King of Hearts.
I must confess that our daughter took most of these photographs...her camera is just that much better than mine.
Here are a few more shots capturing some of the action.

The whole family trooped down to Kansas for the show. Our son-in-law remarked to me that it was so thoughtful of everyone to show up.
I pointed out that that's just how we are in this family. And we'll probably all troop to New York when she's on Broadway!

What fun! A beautiful young lady and a budding actress. You will surely enjoy the years to come.
ReplyDeleteHa! I was just thinking what a marvelous job you did with the photos, when I came to the part that said most of them were your daughter's. You've got me wanting to reread the book now. It looks as if this was professionally done. The costumes and sets are amazing. And your granddaughter must be very talented indeed.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely for you to get to see her perform. It looks like a top-notch production. The scenery is incredible.
ReplyDeleteThat must have been a wonderful show. It sure looks like it from the pics.
ReplyDeleteA talented little lady!
ReplyDeleteShe really might be on Broadway one day! :)
ReplyDeleteOh, thanks, Teresa! You are correct...lots of enjoyment ahead for us.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda. I just had to give credit where credit was due and I'm going to re-read the book, myself.
I can't tell you how much we enjoyed it, Hilary. She's quite a little actress and yet she's all little girl, too.
It was a wonderful show, Leah. So glad you enjoyed the photos, too.
Hi, Ramona! Yes, she's very talented. And she wasn't a bit nervous at all. Five performances, too...that's a big job for a ten year old.
I know, blueviolet...I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see her name in lights. That would be amazing.
Aw...that's just wonderful! Alice is great!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully captured photos too.

Fabulous sets!
ReplyDeleteBravo! Wow, what an experience for all involved, your granddaughter sounds as though she was a hit, the costumes and set were phenomenal. I'll be watching for her debut on Broadway! Thank you for sharing this special moment in time Cheryl. Your granddaughter is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to see the photos. Beautiful. I know it must have been a thrill for your whole family. Your son-in-law sounds so nice. Do you have a video or a way we could hear some singing? Best wishes to your granddaughter as she proceeds with a potentially exciting future on stage.
ReplyDeleteExcellent! It looks as though your grand-daughter was a wonderful Alice. You must be bursting with pride.
ReplyDeleteThis brought back memories for me from my days in theatre..... SOOOOO much fun!
:)
What a production! Looks like tons of money as well as great talent (gets it from you, I'm sure) went into the play. I love being able to see all the photos and I'm sure this entry will be viewed by you in future. That's a great thing about blogging. The diary-type entries that you might not have otherwise.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your granddaughter's performance.
This looks as if it was a very elaborate and professional production---Costumes, Scenery---And it also sounds like a certain Granddaughter stole the show!!! (BYW: Larry Parks, Betty G's, husband was born in Olathe, Kansas....) Broadway is beckoning.....!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments, my dear....
I have an illness that keeps me comfimed to my home---irreversable damage to my lungs. I can go out for a ride occasionally, but not get close to anyone without knowing if they are sickly, etc. It is an on-going thing that unfortuneatly can not get better.
My Birthday is June 27th....and it is a BIG Number! 8-0....Eighty! I cannot believe it! (lol)
You'd better start saving up for numerous Broadway trips! She's quite impressive, performing as the show's star.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Grandpa! I need to stop over to your blog for a visit. It's been a zoo around here and I'm so far behind on everything. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda M...you are too kind!
Thanks so much, darlin. We think she's beautiful, too, but I will admit that we are doting grandparents so we're allowed :-)
TechnoBabe, there will be a DVD coming out. And my daughter-in-law filmed two short pieces but she can't figure out how to get them to me. I will definitely post them if we figure it out. Thanks so much for your sweet comments.
Baggie, I didn't know you were in theater? That's awesome. Got any pics to share?
You are so right, Janell...blogging is a perfect way to journal. Now if I could just get organized. Yes, it was quite the production and we were very impressed.
Naomi, thanks for stopping by! I think I read on one of your posts about Larry Parks. That's so cool. Did Betty Garrett ever visit there? I'd love to get some of the Laverne & Shirley episodes to see her, again, as Mrs. Babish. She was fabulous. Will have to check Netflix. Do you have a favorite episode with her in it? I did read about your illness and I'm terribly sorry about it. Just stay safe, please.
Yep, I'll have to start saving, Janie. Since she's only 10 I think I've got a few years...I hope! :-)
Oh my goodness! Congrats to your granddaughter! The pictures you took were awesome!
ReplyDeleteI'm following you over on this blog, too! I have to tell you that I have Netflix and Laverne & Shirley aren't avail. yet...I have them marked though!
Susie
Thanks, SusieQ...it was a blast watching her in that play. Thanks for the follow, too. I want to find out which Laverne & Shirley episodes Betty Garrett was in because those are the episodes I really want to see.
ReplyDeleteLooks like I'm back in business here on Blogger. Whew!
