Choppy Waters at Lake Mary

Rolling waves and battered dock sections
Waves splashing up through the dock sections

We had a really nice Memorial Day weekend.  The weather was supposed to be terrible...rainy, windy and cold.   Sunday night we had thunderstorms and again last night...in fact, we had some hail!

But Sunday and Monday were lovely during the day.  Monday was breezy but warm and we enjoyed sitting on the deck both days.

However, it's making up for it, today.  Big time!  We are experiencing sustained winds of 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.  And take it from me, the gusts seem to be more sustained than not!

I thought you'd "enjoy" (for lack of a better word)  a couple of photos I just shot of our poor dock.  The waves are so strong that they've knocked several of the dock panels out of their slots.  Click on the photos to enlarge them and you'll see what I mean.

Hope it doesn't last long...

  1. Good heavens! I hope this doesn't last long, too! A dear friend of mine is from your area so I know it's been a tough time, weather-wise. I've never, ever, experienced a spring like this before - and I've got some miles on my feet. Hope the sun shines soon for you.

  2. Those photos of the dock damage are interesting though I really didn't have to enlarge them to see you're going to have work to do. We had a half-way sunny day yesterday and today, back to winter here in central Calif. They expect snow down to 4k ft tomorrow. With thunderstorms and hail.
    And scowls (with howls).

I hope your weather chills too! haha I mean, takes a vacation.

  4. Wow, this looks scary. I hope your boat doesn't break loose from what's left of your dock and go floating down the river! I like the photos, I don't like your awful weather. Here I had to bring in all of my flowers two nights ago, we dipped below zero, it's almost June... what the heck! I hope you have brighter sunshiny days ahead of you and this type of weather ends soon.

  7. It has been a weird spring. We practically went from highs in the fifties to highs in the nineties overnight. Yesterday and today were both 90 or higher. And this has been the wettest May in our city's recorded history. We have proof in our sunken living room. :)

Hope your winds subside soon and that you're able to get that dock repaired without too much trouble.

  11. Kittie, this weather is keeping us all on our toes, that's for sure. Yesterday was sunny and warm, today...not so much.

Janell, we could probably swap spots and never know the difference. Scowls with howls, indeed!

Yep, Janie, rocking and rolling is correct. Thank goodness the sections just popped out and didn't float away.

darlin, the boat was just as snug as a bug in a rug - hah! Dipping below zero in June is not good.

Elizabeth, all is well...the wind subsided and the sun was shining, yesterday. Whew!

Hi blueviolet...yep, the dock got hammered pretty good. But it's all repaired, now.l

You said it, Linda...a very weird spring. Oh no...did you get water in your living room??

Thanks, Mami, the dock is all fixed and we're safe and sound.

Linda M, we did stay indoors! I moved some of my plants out of the wind and almost got blown away while doing that!

Things have definitely calmed down, Techno. Thanks for your concern.

Hi Ladyfi! Thank you...all is well.

  13. Ramona, the water really was kinda scary I should have taken more pictures of the waves...and yes, we (I mean Jack) fixed the dock. He's got it well and truly anchored, now. We think. :-)
