May Flowers

It's mighty cold and windy here on the first day of May 2011.  Everyone in Minnesota, despite hoping for the best, knows that cold, windy, snowy days aren't completely out of the question on the first day of May.

So today I'm posting flowery photos...

These were the Valentine flowers that Jack gave me.  A pretty Kalanchoe with pink blossoms that lasted well over a month!

I trimmed off  the fading flowers about a week ago in hopes that it will bloom again.

I think it will.

But even if it doesn't, it's still pretty.  The succulent leaves have a scalloped edge and there are lots of them.

Next we have what was left of the bouquets that Miss Alice in Wonderland received following her most excellent performances.

These photos were taken several days later after discarding the flowers that had lost their flair.  It occurred to me that they should be photographed for posterity.  And for a scrapbook which she needs to start to document her theatrical journey.

Who doesn't love roses?

The colors are spectacular and even though they don't last very long, they're so worth having once in awhile for a special occasion.

These purple daisy-like flowers and the pink and white carnations looked perky and springy in a vase on the table in their foyer.

This little patch of crocuses are the very first flowers to bloom in our perennial garden.   Am I ever glad I took this photo...because we had a dusting of snow on the ground, this morning.

I'm almost afraid to go out to see how they fared overnight.

  1. Lovely. So wonderful to have spring inside (when it can't be found outside!)

  2. I hope the crocuses survived the snow!
You have lots of lovely house plants to keep you cheery until the outside plants get going.

  5. Very pretty and colorful and lucky you to have some crocuses already in bloom. Not a single thing here yet that I've spotted and I'm not even going to think of planting for at least another 3-4 weeks. I hope that your blossoming crocuses fared well.

  9. Thank you, Dawn. I think spring has finally arrived...thank goodness.

Janie, sadly the crocuses didn't survive but now we have pretty little jonquils. So all is well.

Biz, so far May has been iffy...we've got sun right now so we're keeping our fingers crossed!

    Thanks, Slamdunk. It's sunny, today...yay!

Thanks for visiting, Diane, and for the very nice comment!

Hi darlin! No more crocuses but we've got lots of other greenery starting to poke through the earth. I love it.

Ramona, nobody has roses like yours! But thanks!

Thank you, blueviolet. I am lucky, indeed!

That's what I was thinking, Baggie. I told my daughter I'd forward the pics to her...haven't, yet. Gotta get on that!

I just love reading your comments. It's part of what makes blogging so much fun, don't you think?

Unfortunately, because of a recent spat of spam, for awhile I'll be reviewing comments before publishing them.

Thanks for understanding.
