| Mrs Wren on her Roof |
Some years we have chickadees nesting there and some years there are wrens, instead. This is a wren year and they're busy, busy, busy.
I'm not certain if the wren is feeding babies or if she's still building her nest because I haven't watched from the beginning of the process. This morning, it looked as though both the female and the male were going in and out of the house but I could be wrong about that.
Here is a snapshot of her entering the house...
...and this picture of her peeking out to see if the coast is clear, probably:
Watching the wrens was a nice break from my obsession with the wood ducks. Jack thinks I've gone bonkers, I think.
I've risen at the crack of dawn and have situated myself in the porch overlooking the lake with my camera on its tripod perfectly focused on the wood duck nesting box.
I have a photograph of the wood duck hen's little backside as she entered the nesting box and today I got one of her in mid-flight nearly at the "door". But they're not very good so I think I'll just keep trying.
In any case, after she settled herself back on her eggs, this morning, I knew I wouldn't see any more action until later today.
We also have a fine little community of hummingbirds, Baltimore orioles and goldfinches, as well as robins, nuthatches, chickadees and, of course, the wrens.
It's a beautiful sunny day and there's bound to be another photo op or two. I hope.

Birds bring so much pleasure, don't they? I saw my first oriole here just a few days ago. What a treat!
ReplyDeleteI can't blame you one bit for your obsession.. birds sure do brighten our days/
ReplyDeleteOur birds pretty much disappeared after the tornadoes, but they are slowly making their way back. We still haven't seen goldfinches though, and we had a bunch of them :(
ReplyDeleteYou're like a stalker. Poor birdie...haha
ReplyDeleteI luv watching the wrens at the house. Haven't seen that many this year.
ReplyDeleteOh, such precious photos! We don't have a birdhouse in the backyard, but we do have a bat house... Yep, we're a bit offbeat, I suppose.
ReplyDeleteThe wrens are fortunate to have such a lovely setting for their home. It looks as if you have a lovely setting for your home, as well. :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Photos :-)
ReplyDeleteGreetz,
Joseph
Things have quieted down in our backyard, probably because we had roofers for three days. Gonna put out some nectar or oranges and see whether any orioles drop by.
ReplyDeleteAn obsession with bird watching seems perfectly normal to me! It's so fun to see the birds ( and ducks) nesting.
ReplyDeleteI love watching birds, especially at this time of year.
ReplyDeleteI would wake up at the crack of dawn too if I had you scenery! :D
ReplyDeleteI am taking my camera on my walk today - maybe I'll get a few good pics! :D
Happy Thursday!
I put up my hummingbird feeder a few days ago and sure enough, the hummingbirds are back! I love watching them.... and all the other birds. We have red-winged blackbirds at our feeder again this year, along with chickadees, purple finches, evening grosbeaks and juncos. I probably missed a few. We also have blue jays, and those pesky, noisy magpies. Downy woodpeckers, sapsuckers, and at least one pair of pileated woodpeckers. Loons and ducks and geese.... and frogs. It's really noisy in the country at this time of year!! :)
ReplyDeleteYou sound happy and full of interest in life and your surroundings. No wonder. You live in a beautiful area. Have fun with the birds and animals and I look forward to more photos.
ReplyDeleteHi everyone! I am going to respond to each of your comments as soon as possible...Jack has me outside working to get the gardens planted. It's chilly with a few sprinkles and I'd sure like to be inside!
ReplyDeleteBut thanks for stopping by. You know how much I appreciate your friendship!
aw, such sweet little birdies! i just moved to a new area, and i'm still trying to figure out what is what this spring! good luck with your planting!
ReplyDeleteHe he, the bird report. My husband and I love birds, too, and we were just saying this morning how we can't believe so many people never stop and take notice of their comings and goings. Such a pleasure:)
