Robin's Egg Blue

This morning my friend Barb found this robin's nest with four little eggs nestled in the grass near their new house.  Isn't it just perfect?

She's going to keep an eye on it and hopes that the mother robin isn't afraid to sit on the eggs.

Barb and Mike are getting ready to build the deck for their new house and this nest is smack dab in the middle of the deck location.

So fingers crossed that all goes well.  Barb will keep us posted, I'm sure.

Thanks, Barb, for letting me post your terrific photo!

  2. Isn't it unusual for robins to build their nests on the ground? I thought they always put them in trees or at least up off the ground somewhere. We have a robin in our yard that is unable to fly. It's been here for a couple of months now, and we're wondering what it's doing about a nest. We'll look forward to updates on this nest in your friend's yard. How are the wood ducks coming along?

  6. oo, so lovely! that blue is one of my favorite colors, it seems so out of place in nature and so special because of that.

  7. Robin's eggs really are a beautiful color. Hope Mama robin will have success in raising her babies, in spite of the deck project.

  9. Lovely! I hope the robins will hatch out and we can see! We have a nest in our yard, too, but it's too high to see what's happening.

  12. This is like one of those burial grounds where people are prohibited to build. Let's hope it does not become one. ;-) Gorgeous photo of the eggs. Not a common picture we're allowed to see.

  13. Hi everyone! Thanks so much for all of the great comments and for believing me for telling you these are robin's eggs.

Once again, I was wrong. That's the beauty and bain of blogging...if you're wrong, you always get found out!

I've just finished a post explaining that these aren't robin's eggs at all...they're chipping sparrow eggs.

I just love reading your comments. It's part of what makes blogging so much fun, don't you think?

Unfortunately, because of a recent spat of spam, for awhile I'll be reviewing comments before publishing them.

Thanks for understanding.
