Coming up for air...

It has been a crazy month.  I won't even go into detail because you'd be bored to death but trust me...we were REALLY busy!

And Mother Nature was irritated about something because she swept through our little community with a vengence!  We've had so much rain.  Most of the lakescape along the shoreline is either dying or it's dead.  We're not going to do much until next spring but then a lot of it will have to come out.  I'm thinking of it as an opportunity to try something new.  Glass half full and all that sort of thing...

Here's our beach on July 2nd:

Playing on the big sandy beach!

And here's the same beach on August 6th:

The big sandy beach is no more...

The swing set

Our new "swamp"!

The water has gone down a little and I hope by next summer we have some of our original beach, again.  But for now...well, I think we'll be bringing in the dock sooner rather than later.

With summer almost over, I'm hoping to soon be back in the swing of things.  I'll be visiting all my favorite blogging haunts in the next few days.  Yay!

  1. Wow.. you have been swamped in more ways than one. That's quite a dramatic change. I hope your beach returns by next summer.

  2. That is such a change. You are a strong woman with a wonderful glass half full way of dealing with things. I am impressed with your positive attitude. People have been dealing with strong weather of all kinds this summer and I am relieved that so far I have not heard of anyone with major results yet. Everyone I read has reported in safe and sound. Glad you are too.

  3. Yeah, I would say you all had some water then. It has been a wash out here as well.

  4. I was just thinking of you, wondering how things were, and here you are, within minutes! I love it! But, I am sorry to see that lovely beach disappear. I hope next summer it returns and life is busy to just the right degree. So good to hear from you. :)

  5. MAJOR difference. Has it ever been up that high before?

  6. Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about the ruin of your beach and your beautiful lakescape. To paraphrase Scarlett O'Hara, "Next year is another year."

  8. That's a good one, Hilary...swamped in more ways than one!! Thanks for popping in...I'll be by soon. Am eager to see what you and that sweet Benny are up to.

TechnoBabe, you are so kind. Thanks for the positive thoughts. So many people have been hit with bizarre weather, this year, haven't they?

Hi Slamdunk! Not sure where you are in the Northeast but I wouldn't be surprised if you're stranded somewhere considering that massive hurricane that tore through the east coast! Hope you're okay.

Thank you,Teresa. All is well, here. I've been thinking about you, too. I've got to get back in the swing of things and I will.

ethelmae, we've lived here 13 years and it's never been this high in all that time. I'm told that it was higher than this a few years before that, though. Thanks for stopping by!

Yep, you're right, Linda. Next year is another year, indeed! And thanks for your concern.

Yes, Ramona. A BIG change. It'll be a big project next spring. Will "see" you, soon...gotta find out what's up in Mississippi!!

  9. Wow, now that's a lot of water! Today I was ripping drywall off my downstairs walls, I've got some type of a leak I need to find. I hope you didn't get any water damage in your house, not a fun job to start ripping walls apart!

It's great to hear from you, take care and see you again soon!

  10. Good grief! That looks like my garden did this summer! (LOL) We've had a lot of rain here, too, which drowned my garden. My glass half-full take on things? I won't have as much work to do this fall, harvesting the garden! We will have to buy potatoes, but we've been blessed in other ways - friends and relations have been giving us fruit, so we'll have lots and lots of jam and jelly!
Glad to see you back in the blogosphere!

  11. Oh no, sorry to see your beach gone, how annoying that must be.
We too have been having a lot of rain in July- August. It has been the rainiest summer on record here. Honestly, it doesn't feel like there has been any summer at all.;) Luckily, the season will come back in one year.;)

  12. Ripping drywall off your walls does not sound like fun, darlin! I hope by now you've found the leak. It was good of you to stop by :-)!!

Hi B.L.! I'm with you on the glass half-full bit. Not a lot we can do, anyway, so might as well look at the positive points. And there are almost always positive points. Would love to have some of your jams & jellys!

Zuzana, thanks so much for your visit! Mother Nature wasn't kind in Denmark, either, I guess. Well, you are correct...summer will be back on one year. No worries.

I just love reading your comments. It's part of what makes blogging so much fun, don't you think?

Unfortunately, because of a recent spat of spam, for awhile I'll be reviewing comments before publishing them.

Thanks for understanding.
