Puzzled!
My brother-in-law buys a puzzle for my sister every Christmas. I've always enjoyed working on their current puzzle whenever we're visiting the Pacific Northwest.
I thought it would be a great little extra gift for Jack so I purchased one, this year, thinking that we could work on it together during the long cold winter. I could just imagine us, heads together, bent over the table mulling over this piece and that. It would be a fun!
Well.....so far Jack has wandered by and glanced at the table, periodically, while I have been totally obsessed! I've worked on it every day since Christmas day. I think I'm addicted.
This is playing serious havoc with my plans to "get organized" in 2012!
This morning, I told Jack that I think I'm going to pull it all apart, put it back in the box and wait until I can set it up on the table in the porch when spring arrives.
Haven't had the courage to do so, yet....
Stay tuned.

That puzzle looks like a really fun one. I will wait to hear if you actually do take it apart to begin again in spring.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I figured out a few years ago that we can't handle jigsaw puzzles. We laid one out on the dining room table...1500 pieces, creatively cut...and nearly ruined our health, bending over the table and working on it until the wee hours of the morning. We both had back aches and bags under our eyes by the time it was finished. Happy puzzling. :)
ReplyDeleteWow, that looks like a really fun puzzle! I can't blame you for wanting to stick with it. Why should it wait for spring?
ReplyDeleteWe used to work puzzles, until we figured the cats were running off with the pieces!
ReplyDeleteI'd never be able to tear it apart after that much work! My husband will walk by and easily spot a couple of pieces that fit, and then he's gone again. That one looks like great fun.
ReplyDeleteGood for you. It's great to have something to focus that comes with a sense of accomplishment.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE jigsaw puzzles. I have a jigsaw board that can be folded over and put away under the sofa (when I have one again!). I used to be the official 1000+ jigsaw checker for the local charity shop, which was great because I didn't have to buy a puzzle for years. Good luck with your one, it looks great xxx
ReplyDeleteIt looks like one I'd have a hard time putting away.
ReplyDeleteIt IS fun, Cici!
ReplyDeleteI know whereof you speak, Linda. One night I couldn't sleep and worked on it for two hours in the middle of the night!!
Ms Sparrow, I'd forgotten how much fun puzzles can be...
Pam, that's SO FUNNY! I can just imagine the cats having a blast playing with the pieces!
Blissed-Out Grandma, it's like a magnet!
Leah, it's really fun! Lots of "Aha" moments!
FRan, where did you get your jigsaw board??? I'd LOVE to have something like that! Oh my gosh...what a great job at the charity shop.
Hi Linda M...you've got that right!
Oh I love puzzles, too. I used to get three every year when my kids were young.. March break, summer break and Christmas break. There's always one going on at the cottage when we're up there. Frank just gave me a Norman Rockwell puzzle to do. Now I just need to clear some space. ;)
ReplyDeleteHave fun.. I see that you do. :)
That looks like a hard one!
ReplyDeleteI JUST was talking today that I needed to start a new puzzle. The last one I tried was cut so cheaply and in such random teeny tiny pieces that it wasn't fun. So I'll ask you. Where is a good source (not too pricey) for jigsaw puzzles?
ReplyDeleteThey're fun!
When my mom was still alive, we did a puzzle every year at Christmas. The whole family would work on it (except dad, but he made sure we didn't starve by bringing us turkey sandwiches and drinks. He made the best turkey sandwiches...but I digress.)
ReplyDeleteI have done puzzles since, but, like you, get so caught up that I don't get anything else done, and I've been busy with other commitments this year....
Yours looks like a ton of fun! (and there's no way I'd be able to tear it apart after that much work!) My advice? Finish it. You'll want to be going outside in the spring.
Please don't undo your progress! Some people are puzzle people and some are not. Don't let that put a damper on your fun. :)
ReplyDeletehi cheryl! thanks for dropping by my blog!
ReplyDeleteit's been more years than i care to admit since i've done a puzzle! i have enough midwestern guilt over the time i spend blogging. ;o)
Hi Cheryl,
ReplyDeleteIt's been awhile since you posted this. So, did you end up working more on the puzzle, or put it away like you were thinking of doing? I like Saturday Evening Post art work. You sure had made lots of progress, so I hope you are still at it. Larry's mom used to keep a card table up where she always had a puzzle in the making. If I ever get rid of enough stuff, I may take up the hobby when I retire.
Are you expecting winter weather tomorrow? We are. That's good. I want to get it over with before April gets here.
Happy New Year!
Thanks, Hilary...working a puzzle can be so relaxing...or so frustrating! The key is to stop now and then for a break!
ReplyDeleteIt IS hard, Ramona! But I think I'm getting the hang of it.
Liz, I got this at Walmart! I'll check to see what the brand is and let you know. I'm at my daughter's in Kansas and won't be home until the end of the month!
Bag Lady, I had to leave it because we're away until the end of the month. But I'll be back at it as soon as we get back home. It really is fun!
Nancy, thank you for stopping by! I do like puzzles and I'm not taking it apart.
Hi bon bon! Thank you for your visit, too! I know what you mean about "guilt"...but I'm not letting it get the best of me - ha!
Hi Sue! As I mentioned above, I'm away from home but will finish it when we return. We had a beautiful drive down to Kansas on Tuesday...such warm weather we didn't even have the car heater on! But there are snow flurries, now. It's supposed to warm up by the weekend.
