Bainbridge Island to Seattle

View of Seattle skyline and mountains from the ferry
We left Bainbridge Island on Leap Day!  I had planned to post something clever for that day but by the time we gathered our belongings and fed the lamb for the last time, I ran out of time.

We took the ferry from Winslow (on the Island) to Seattle.  This is a shot of the ferry arriving at Bainbridge Island.  You can see the cars on the lower level...they drive off the ferry as the walk-on passengers exit via a walkway from the upper level.  All very organized.   You can ride the ferry from Bainbridge Island to Seattle as a walk on passenger for no charge at all.  There is a charge to return but it's nominal.

If you look closely, you'll see the Space Needle through the left window and the Seattle skyline through the right.  I took these pics with my phone camera...am coming to the conclusion that it's a better camera than my actual camera!

My sister and brother-in-law were waiting for us...we headed north to Mount Vernon where we'll be spending a few days.

As we were sailing along the interstate highway we passed the Space Needle and I captured this shot through the car window!

So we're here until Monday when we'll hop back on the Empire Builder (Amtrak) and head back to Minnesota.

I'm not sure what the next few days will hold but if anything of interests happens, I'll be sure to post about it.

Stay tuned.

    1. ethelmae! I'm so glad to see you! Seattle is beautiful but if you do come, I'd make it during the summer...kinda chilly here, right now.

  2. What a beautiful place. Many years ago, when I was growing up, my family took an annual vacation to Ontario. We traveled from our home in Indiana, up through Michigan. The trip included two ferryboat crossings...one across the Straits of Mackinaw and the other, much shorter one, crossing from Michigan into Canada. It was always a marvel to me how they could put all those cars on those boats.

    1. Linda, it's amazing to me, too, how they designed these ferries to carry all the cars. Sometimes there are huge eighteen wheelers on, too. Balance is the key, of course, so loading them the right way is imperative!

    1. At least winter in Minnesota will be a lot shorter than usual, Ms. Sparrow. We were bound to get a lot of snow at some point!

    1. I have never been up in the Space Needle and have no plans to change that...I'm scared to death of heights! Jack went without me with my blessings.

  10. I live just north of Seattle, about an hour south of where you are. If you have time and inclination this weekend, we could meet for coffee in Everett or Marysville. Let me know.

  12. I live at the very end of washington state, vancouver, we go to seattle a lot, love the ferry system, cheap and lovely. Largest of the entire ferry systems in the whole of the USA and that includes the New York & New Jersey states..we love Seattle it has everything a person could want, home price have plummeted but still available, yes it rains a lot up there, but they have everything in the way of arts, culture, sports, and JOBS which the city I live in does not, we so wanted to live there when we came from Denver area in 1978 one could still get a brand new home for a little more than $40,000 oh, if I could have gotten a decent job, but then our only child would have been in daycare and babysat, which changes in my opinion and my husbands opinion too how a child views the world, we were poor here and not too much, but she had her Momma and Daddy and I like to think it made her the most wonderful human being there is, she lived in Seattle for 4 and 1/2 years when her job went to another country, it happens a lot up in Seattle, now she is in NYC and travels all thru the USA for a film company and internationally too.she gets up to Seattle a lot and we amtrak it up there to spend wonderful days with our sweet angel...She had many friends from college from Bainbridge Island and the Orcas too, we went to their weddings as our daughter was their Maid of Honor..those places are the real jewels of the entire state! Enjoy your blog, hoping you are not freezing in Minnesota, you get all the seasons there..keep up the sweet blog, enjoy it very very much...

I just love reading your comments. It's part of what makes blogging so much fun, don't you think?

Unfortunately, because of a recent spat of spam, for awhile I'll be reviewing comments before publishing them.

Thanks for understanding.
